How to Choose the Best Autoplan

Comparing Auto Insurance Plans

When comparing auto insurance online, it is important to take a look at the coverage amounts, deductibles and fine print. Variations in these three items can cause the price of the monthly premiums to vary dramatically.

Get all Quotes in Writing

For every insurance policy quote you receive online or in-person, get the details in writing. You should have a paper that lists the coverage limits, the deductible and the monthly premium. You also want to get information on what is not covered by the policy. By getting these items in writing, you will be able to quickly compare car insurance quotes.

The deductible is how much you have to pay out of your own pocket before your insurance policy steps in and pays the remainder. Having a higher deductible results in lower monthly premiums. Unfortunately, if your deductible is higher than you can afford, your car insurance won’t do you much good in the event of an auto accident because you must be able to pay your deductible in order to get your car repaired.

Coverage Limits

The cheapest insurance policy for cars is liability. This type of policy pays for the other person’s car in the event that you were found to be the liable for the car accident. It does not pay for your car. States mandate minimum auto insurance coverage limits, but often those low amounts do not pay the entirety of the car accident bill. This could leave you open to lawsuits in the event that the other driver’s repairs and medical bills are higher than your insurance allows. To avoid this catastrophe, choose an affordable plan with reasonable coverage limits, not necessarily state minimums.

Fine Print

Always read the fine print. This is where you will find things that are not included in your policy, and you don’t want to find out after your car is stolen or broken into that your policy doesn’t cover theft. Policy exclusions can result in dramatically lower monthly rates, but you need to know what they are in order to determine if you can live without them.
